Princesses

Attention Dallas Drivers:

Use. Your. Turn. Signals.

I know you learned how they work once upon a time. You had to pass a test to get that license of yours. There is a point to it. Please let me know you are coming before you run me off the road.
Thank you.

Etc.

The Texas Half Marathon. He lived! I was really proud of him for finishing, especially considering his crazy schedule as of late. Next year he's got some serious goals for this one --like not wanting to chop his feet off after he's done. Tessa and I ran the 5k. While watching for her daddy, she got caught up in the excitement near the finish line and would run back and forth with her arms tucked up by her chest yelling, "Go, Tessa, go!"

Last month, Jake and I were given tickets to the Jazz vs. Mavericks game. The tickets were in the "platinum" section. Needless to say, I felt like an outsider. I was surprised by the restaurant/lounge type atmosphere where our tickets
led. Couches? Buffets? Nicely decorated bathrooms? What in the world? Hot dogs in the nose bleed section, that's what I know.

Go Mazz! Go Javs! That's what I should have been yelling. I just really enjoy the energy and the atmosphere at places like this. I cheer for everyone. Mainly I like to people watch. Jake brought his binoculars. Perfect. The white pony tailed man in the lime green suit near the floor was my favorite.
Big dates with my hub are few and far between these days, but I sure enjoy them.

Did I carry on the tradition I started last year for Valentine's Day? Yep. I sure did. I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day if you know me at all --well, except for the chocolate. I just don't really get it. However, I think this is fun. I count it as the Valentine to my family. This year's "hearty" menu? Heart shaped mini meatloaves, heart shaped garlic bread, gotta throw in the token hearts of Romaine Caesar salad, heart cut strawberries, milk?, and heart shaped brownies for dessert. Ta da!
Here's Tessa showing off her strawberries.
Something funny that happened a few nights ago... In the middle of the night I heard a terrified sounding crying coming from Tessa. I flew out of the bed since it sounded serious. I opened her door, and in the pitch dark, I let her know it was me coming in. I didn't see her sitting up or anything, so I reached down into her crib. She whined, while still asleep, in the saddest voice, "My cookie. My cookie."
I stroked her face and said, "I know, sweetie," and she was back to quietly sleeping. Monsters? Bring 'em on. Just don't take my kid's cookie.

When they are ready to make an endorsement deal,

I'm ready for them.
This is the best floss. Ever. My teeth shred up any other kind I've tried (call me sabertooth). Seriously, it rocks. Never changing.

When I was teaching, so often I would be eating breakfast on the road (uh, it has nothing to do with the fact that I can't be on time for the life of me). Chocolate Ovaltine and buttered toast was my meal of choice. The true breakfast of champions. I still love cold chocolate Ovaltine, and Tessa now loves it too. I'm curious as to how the malt flavor is, but not curious enough to purchase it. I'll leave it up to the malt lovers. Ms. Talbot?

I'll never buy the cheap wipees again. I've learned my lesson. Generic diapers I can deal with, but Huggies wins the prize as far as baby bum wipes goes. Trust me. There is a difference.

We were fortunate enough to receive a Tom Tom GPS for Christmas. How amazing is this thing? Very. How rejected am I when it comes to directions? Very. We make a great pair. Richard's voice is the one we chose as our tour guide to the streets. Thanks, Rick. I'm contemplating calling him Pretty Ricky for Allison's sake, though.

I love cold cereal. Right now I dream of Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles. I laugh when I see the "Sensible Solution" symbol on the front of the boxes, because they can't possibly be part of a sensible diet. Ah well, I'll take their word for it.

I'll stop with the top five that came to mind today, but honorable mentions go to Dove Chocolate Promises, Cadbury Mini Eggs (which stare me down each and every Easter) is it sad that chocolate is showing up more often than not on this post?, sample size Clinique mascara, Nike tennis shoes, and library books. Yep, library books.
Which product would you happily endorse?

Particular Tastes

Two year olds are funny. So particular in how things need to be for having lived such a short time. Tessa often lets us know whose turn it is or what order things need to go in. Her aunt made her a princess pillowcase for Christmas, and we thought it would be a great time to start her on a big girl pillow so that when she moves to a big girl bed, it could be the familiar thing to accompany her. When I asked her if she was ready to sleep on her princess pillow the other night, she politely informed me that it was a Cinderella pillow, not a princess pillow. The interesting thing about bedtime lately: Tessa hasn't been one who needed anything specific for bed. I always included her Lamby Pie, but honestly she could have cared less if it was there or not. She hasn't been a blanky kid, a certain toy kid, or a pacifier kid. I've loved that about her. There has been no fear of leaving something behind that she'd lose it over. Well, I don't think she'd lose it over these new tastes of hers, but they are still pretty funny to me. When she goes to sleep she needs the following stuffed animals: Lamby Pie, Pink Doggy, and Mimi.

I get it with Lamby Pie and Pink Doggy, but what's with Mimi? And where did she come up with that name for it? It's a stupid McDonald's Happy Meal toy, but she loves it most of all right now. She was asking about the "other Mimi" some nights ago, but I have yet to figure that one out.
So, now when I sing her the nightly "star song", which includes her mom and dad and Lamby Pie, she is not content until I've added Pink Doggy and Mimi to the song. She's got all three snuggled up to her on her pillow. Too funny. Then we add the three blankets in their usual order before she can go to sleep. Yep, all three. I've tried to cut down and it's not happenin'. She's a great sleeper, so I don't mind her bedtime routine, I'm just amused by it.

Other updates?
Tessa: Verbal and a crack up
Maren: Expanding and tired
Jake: Busy
Jake, Tessa, and Maren: happy

Need a Hula lesson?

Here is our Tessa: princess skirt and wiggling hips to The Little Mermaid "Kiss the Girl". She has to be dancing on the flower rug when she is in her room and the music is on. It's very serious business.

I promised a while back....

that I would post more of our pictures back from November. Picasa will only let me do 4 per post, so I am stopping at two posts. That's it. It's about time I move on to the present in this blog, right?
